March 2008

Maelstrom Event 1—The Celestial Gala.  What a great event and even though cold, wet, windy and everything else the English Weather can throw, it still gets great Kudos to the Jade Lotus and their team for a fabulous immersive experience.  Kudos to Profound Decisions for supporting the site when tents got blown away in the night.  Roll on the next one.  We enjoyed helping the Bastet with their Holy Icon, which saw action that weekend.  Glad to help out—it makes an appearance in the Larp Collection, go take a look.

****NEW!  Medieval Helmets!***

In partnership with “Sir Dominic,” this medieval-style helmet is constructed from plastic and hand-painted to make it look as authentic as possible.  Take a look in the LARP Collection to see this great looking prop.

*** MASSIVE UPDATE IN REPLICA FIREARMS ***

This section has gotten so big it’s time to break it down.  You can now find replica pistols all on their own with a hugely expanded range and our custom holsters (NEW ONE’S IN STOCK!!!!) as well as Muskets and Blunderbuss in a section of their very own.

** Update to Older Designs **

Always moving forward, we have revamped some of the older pictures with the latest work—Infantry Officer Sabre, Katana, some of the new alterations.  Check out the site and see what else has been changed, you might like what you find.

February 2008

It’s been a manic month of Maelstrom Player Events and orders, ramping up for Maelstrom Event 1 and the first EOS of the Year.  Coming soon the weapons and strangeness from those systems, as well as more replica firearms.   Now, LARP-safe ladies fans are the newest addition to the range.  Accessorise your outfit with a colour-coordinated fan!  Go check them out in the LARP Collection.

New—Mage Walking Stick.  Check out the LARP Collection to see the new Mages’ Walking Stick, a commission for a player at EOS.  Looking forward to Event 1 this year!  Also there an Entrenching tool, another request from EOS players.

Replica Firearms—Italian Percussion Cap Pistol.

Also in Replica Firearms, we are now producing custom holsters for any replica in stock.  If you have an idea we can make it happen.  Unlike other similar items, we only use sturdy materials to produce a product that is hard wearing, reliable and built to last.  Not only that, these holsters will deal with the problem of having a side-mounted lock mechanism and stop that annoying *clunk* you keep hearing behind you as your pistol falls out!  In black, red, simple brown or undyed veg-tan, these holsters will really set you apart from other pistol users.

****Toy Caps****   We are now selling Toy Caps for your LARP-replica needs.  After two years of research and testing, these are caps we guarantee will fire with any replica firearm sold here.  We have found them to work every time, as long as your replica is of course in good working order.

******** Price Increase *******

Due to increases in prices from the distributer, Denix Replica Firearms are going up.  Makai-LARP will still try to be as cheap as possible, keeping prices as low as we can for the UK Larper.   If you can find it cheaper anywhere else on a UK-based Website we will match that price. Guaranteed!

January 2008

And Happy New Year!  Ok, a bit late but I’m sure you’ll all agree that we just can’t wait for the Larp Season to start up again.  Ready for that we have a new Spartan Sword and Shield design to Greek yourself up, another Jian sword, an update to the Katana which shows off some of the latest work we are producing, expanding our Replica Firearms and improvements in the Modern Section.  A busy few months it’s been and here’s to you all for the coming year.  Hope your Enemies are small and your profits big.

Did I forget to mention there are a few more wooden doodads in the New Wooden Props Section?  Go on, you know you want to go look :)

December 2007

New This Month as promised, Bo Sticks coming in to the Standard LARP Section.  A beautiful and practical Martial Arts weapon, either on its’ own or in pairs, the fighting baton or bo stick can really add to the feel of your character.

Also starring in our Modern Day section, a set of practical Gang Weapons, including the Machete and Iron Bar.

In our LARP Collection adding another Modern Day feel, the Pipe Wrench makes an appearance.  A great addition and a custom design that we were happy to take on.

Also as promised, a new line that should see the LARPer throw away those green nylon camping chairs and set themselves up nicely with a proper folding wooden stool, coming with leather or canvas seat.  Follow the link from the Left-Hand Menu and check them out.   We think you’ll agree this stool really stands out amongst the rest.

November 2007

New Products this month:  The Jian Sword, Chaos Blade more Replica Firearms and Custom Holsters!

The fabulous Jian Sword in our Standard LARP Weapons section, another Chinese Classic following our successful Gong-Fu Dao.  Made with Carbon Fibre to make it the weight you would expect from such a fast and light blade.  Also here you will find a new High Fantasy Sword, showcasing a customers’ design coming to life.  With large intricate hilt, curved-back blade and crest design on the pommel, the twisted mind can certainly become reality.

Also now introducing a greater range of replica firearms, covering the whole Denix range and more coming next year as the Denix catalogue continues to expand.  To accompany this increase in replica firearms stock we are also introducing a range of holsters specifically designed for flintlock and percussion cap replica pistols.  Examples now and more coming soon in our replica firearms section.

COMING SOON!   *********  Wood and Leather Folding Stool!  Bo Sticks!  *********************

The thoughts of removing that nylon camping chair fresh on our larping minds, we decided to commission a prop more worthy of the larper in the UK.  Check out what came out of that project later this month.

October 2007  - Post EOS: World of Dawn Event 1

An interesting and new system run by Allen Stroud and the Hicks with Sticks.  A great start for the new venture with a decent turnout and overall a thoroughly enjoyable event.  Great to see some people I haven’t seen in years and other old friends who I’ve met at other events.   Roll on next year!  For more information follow our Links page to the EOS Website and check it out.

Coming out of the EOS event, a new Standard LARP Favorite the Knights’ Sword has finally made an appearance on the site.

Also coming soon, the High Fantasy Sword, a blade made to show you can cut it with the Chaos Crowd!

***********************  NEW OPTIONAL CORE MATERIAL NOW AVAILABLE *************************

We are now offering an alternative core to the weapons currently being made—Carbon Fibre, which makes the weapons much lighter.  Ask when ordering and we can talk through what this material can do for your particular weapon, as it isn’t suitable for everything.  Due to the high cost of such materials, there will be a charge if this option is selected.  Ask for details on placing your order.

September 2007  Post Maelstrom Event 4—Harvest Time.

Last one of the Maelstrom Calendar this year and just as eventful as ever.  Great job Broca Whoreson for staying alive against all odds and to Profound Decisions for yet another fantastic event.  A sad goodbye to Drum Hill, but pastures new next year!
