Care and Advice |
|
Care of your Latex weapon is important to its continued safe usage and to the lifetime of the weapon. · Do not store in direct sunlight · Do not store in extreme conditions (between 8°C - 22°C) · Do not compress or bend the tip of your weapon · Do not twist or put your weapon in torsion · Do not stab or lunge or otherwise poke with your weapon · Do not strike with the tip of your latex weapon In addition to the above points you are advised to make sure that your latex weapon is not exposed to water or sunlight for long periods of time. How long will my latex weapon last? In normal use, LARP weapons can be expected to last for two or three years. Many of our weapons will last for five or six years but the total lifetime of the weapon cannot be guaranteed. However there are several conditions that will increase or decrease the life span of your weapon. When fighting with a latex weapon, always pull your blows. Excessive use of force will compress the foam and loosen the latex coating. Never put pressure on the tip of a latex weapon as this will weaken the padding on the tip of the weapon and can eventually expose the fibreglass core making it unsafe for use. Never expose your latex weapon to extremes of heat and cold as these can trigger rotting of the latex. Never allow a latex weapon to come into prolonged contact with strong solvents or materials containing copper as these will destroy the latex coating. Never leave your latex weapon in the window of your car on a hot day, the UV will destroy the latex. Always check the integrity of your latex weapon before fighting with it. Look for signs of foam separation, weakening of the tip, loose handle, thorns and splinters embedded in the blade if you play in a woodland site. Dry your latex weapon after use in wet conditions, the water can permeate the latex and cause separation from the foam.
